Getting Back Into The Dating Pool

Posted by Stacy

Getting back into the dating pool after a divorce can be difficult for both women and men alike.

Lee Block is the premiere expert on divorce and a national divorce coach.  She just launched the new site, The Post Divorce Dating Club, for both men and women.  It offers divorcees a great meeting place for quick mixers online, forums and matchmaking.

Here are her 10 tips for entering back into the dating scene.

Tips on Entering the Dating Scene After Divorce

  1. Take it slow.  It’s not a race to find a new mate, and now is the time you can be as choosy as you want!
  1. Let your friends and family know that you are ready.  This could open up doors for nice dates.
  2. If you have children, only date when they are at the other parents home.  Cherish the time you have them and use the time you don’t for yourself.
  3. Update your wardrobe.  Stylish and sassy will always give you an edge in your confidence when getting back out there to date.
  4. Join some local clubs or places such as meetup.com.  It is sometimes easier to start in a group than one on one.
  5. Be safe.  The rules have changed and make sure you stay safe by meeting out in a public place with a fully charged cell phone and a friend who knows where you are and who you are with.
  6. When joining a dating site, put up a nice picture and profile.  Mention you have children if you have them, but keep it simple!
  7. Don’t talk about your divorce or your ex on first dates.  It is a complete turnoff and you could be running off a really great guy.
  8. Date people who are like-minded like you.  It is easier to date people who are either single parents or re-singled because they come from the same place as you.
  9. Don’t be nervous!  Think of what you have already been through in your life.  That alone should make dating a piece of cake!

What does “like-minded like you” mean? In #9.
In #8: it won’t run off a great gal?
